What was the name of the shiny new one we saw? It reminded me of a certain anime, i think the name of the school in the anime was "closet". ( yes, this is my attempt to be witty... so sue me but it really does remind me of it)

YEah that super long named one
Garderobe was the name of the school. And it is almost the same characters and setting as the two animes which are the same but a little different. both happen at garderobe. ( French for closet, or armoir, what ever you call the place where you put your clothing)

The only anime with a school named Garderobe is Mai Otome. Successor of Mai-Hime.

What was the name of the school for My-HiME? Well that failed .... but does no one else think that they are remarkably similar? ( not the obvious similarity of The mai's, of course they are similar. im talking about between them and the longwinded one.)

Not much really.
If you insist that they are really similar because of post apocalyptic surroundings or magical school girls, brother, you haven't seen that much anime then.
These two aren't actually that close, as (HiME/Otome) has a full culture, story, and implications of a repeating Game. Whereas the other (Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo) Is simply Japan with a little more destruction and magical schoolgirls/boys. Sure there is a post apocylptic devestation implied in the far distance, but that does not matter one whit in the show, at least not so far.
Things closer to Otome per se would be shows like Magical Lyrical Nanoha (A's Striker and so on), Scryed, Wolf's Rain, or Ergo Proxy. These shows actually have not only physical changes, but cultural or societal ones as well, either to Japan, or the fact that Japan loses focus.
Shows that are essentially Japan + Wacky, where wacky is hyper-armor, magic, nanites, tribbles et al. Sadimitsu the Destroyer, Witch Hunter Robin, Fate, or Damn near Every magical romance comedy thing. Japan, Japanisms, and the fact that no matter what happens, it's fixed by next episode, and is never mentioned to have happened.
Shows can be Good or Bad in either camp, though some people have preferences to one or another.
Meh I went off topic. Ah Well

Keep in mind i have only seen the first ep of Mamoru... Ergo might be similar to Otome in that the society is different, but the similarity ends there... How is Ergo more similar to OTome than Mamoru? ( unless later on in the series there are some drastic changes otherwise, schoolgirls with powers, going to some magic school. CRAZY power. Otome and Mamoru seem pretty similar... I realize that this is the basis for alot of anime but ... ERgo??? Even Nanoha i would disagree with...
But it is true, i have not seen a excessive amount of animes, but i like to think that i am reasonably well versed. ( I have a feeling that you are going to make me regret saying this... )
